Between 2005 and 2007 we worked with the local community to establish Cambodia’s first Marine Protected Area and pioneered the first Solid Waste Management (SWM) Centre in the Archipelago.
From 2013, we gathered our work in the areas of water, people, land and climate action under the umbrella of the Song Saa Foundation.
Our hotel opened in 2012 and achieved B Corp status in 2023. Donations from guests make up 12% of the foundation’s funding.
Each member of the hotel team volunteers four hours per month, contributing an average of 6,000 hours to the wellbeing of the Koh Rong Archipelago.
If regeneration is a journey, asking the right questions is the first step. A few we’re considering at the moment are: how can we fight the plastic that washes up on our shores daily? Can we serve fresh seafood without compromising fish stocks? What will it take to tempt more Cambodian women into the workplace?
Learn More About our effortsThe Song Saa Foundation’s projects include a coral nursery, surveying the house reef and a tropical marine monitoring programme throughout the Koh Rong Archipelago.
We’re also safeguarding crucial carbon sinks with dedicated mangrove conservation efforts and rare seagrass meadow monitoring.
And because thriving oceans mean thriving communities, we empower local fishers with training in sustainable techniques – helping them combat illegal fishing and protect biodiversity.
Our foundation strives to improve the lives of locals through medical missions, capacity building programmes and organic farming support.
Education is at our core – from boosting literacy and environmental awareness to teaching kids to swim and snorkel, connecting them with the wonders of their homeland.
We’re proud that 95% of our team is Khmer – including all operations managers – and are currently working hard to recruit more women.
Land-based initiatives cover the conservation of terrestrial habitats and species in the Koh Rong Archipelago and Banteay Srey.
We organise regular clean-ups on neighbouring islands, champion the fight against single-use plastics and are laying the groundwork for a new recycling plant.
With climate change threatening vulnerable communities, we’re raising awareness and constructing rainwater harvesting systems to provide clean water to local villages.
